It is often difficult to stick to a diet if your goal is to lose 30 lbs. or more. Most people lose interest and get frustrated because it can take some time to shed that much weight. Say to yourself, I’m setting a goal to lose 5 or 10 lbs. Do that first and then set a new goal of losing an additional 5 – 10 lbs. You are setting and meeting a series of goals in which you are also building your self-esteem.

Stay away from complicated diets if you are dieting by yourself. You may start out with the best of intentions, but it may be to difficult to stick to and before you know it you will be back to your old bad habits.

In order to lose weight, you must feel passionate about it and believe that you can do it. If you don’t start out with those feelings, it will be extremely difficult for you, if not impossible.  Think of the way you will feel about yourself after you lose the weight. Think about how much healthier you will feel. Really feel these emotions and let them sink deep inside yourself, because you do know that you can do it. Get excited!

It isn’t necessary to give up all the types of food that you love while dieting. Remember your goals and keep them in mind. Eat in moderation and eat healthy foods. Stay away from diet soda and potato chips, this is all common sense. If you change what you eat too drastically it will then be even more difficult for you to remain on your diet.

Let’s not even call it a diet! Let’s call it a lifestyle change, so that you will feel healthy and feel good about yourself and how you look. Again, you are building up your self-esteem.

Let your family and friends know your goals. There is nothing better than having your own personal cheerleaders cheering you on as you meet each goal. Some weeks you will lose weight slower than others and they can be there to lift your spirits when you need them most.

 These common mistakes can easily be overcome if you are determined and passionate about losing weight. You can do it!
